Sea State Lecture: Climate Myths and Legends: Heroes, Oracles, and Climate Change

October 12, 2017 @ 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm
350 Commercial St
Portland, ME 04101

Join us for the third session of our Fall 2017 Joan M. Kelly Sea State Lecture Series, “Debunking Ocean Myths.”

Throughout the series, our speakers will challenge some of the commonly held beliefs associated with their areas of expertise. Our journey continues with GMRI Chief Scientific Officer, Andy Pershing.

Join us in October to hear his talk, “Climate Myths and Legends: Heroes, Oracles, and Climate Change.” For more than 50 years, scientists have been warning that excess carbon dioxide in the atmosphere makes the Earth warmer. However, a substantial number of people, especially in the US, disagree with the scientific consensus. Andy will give an overview of the scientific basis of human-caused climate change, dispel some lingering myths, and then discuss how climate change is another example of the challenging and occasionally tragic interaction between heroes and oracles.

This is a free event open to the public. Register early; seating is limited. To register, please click here. Doors open at 6:30 pm. Free parking is available.
